YOUNG VOICES
YOUNG VOICES is a series of workshops for middle and high school students looking to further enhance their experience in theatre. Participants will select a monologue from a catalog provided by Nashville Rep to be coached by professional teaching artists. This catalog is composed of BIPOC American playwrights, as the program is aimed at giving these overlooked voices a venue to be heard. Our teaching artists have not only graced the Rep stages, showcased their talents on Broadway, made appearances in feature films and television series, and countless other stages.
YOUNG VOICES is fully sponsored and each participating group receives a donation to their classroom for participating in the program. For the initial visit, Nashville Rep sends the teaching artists to coach the participants on Memorization, Creativity, Effectiveness, and Showmanship. They will be given 3 - 5 minutes to work with each participant on their selected piece. At the follow-up visit, participants will perform their pieces and those who score the highest in the above categories will be selected as a finalist. Those finalist will receive award and recognition, an invitation to the monologue masterclass, and have the chance to compete at the public presentation for additional scholarships up to $750.
Nashville Rep is dedicated to fostering a greater understanding and awareness of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. Increasing arts accessibility is one of the many values we set out to achieve here at Nashville Rep and YOUNG VOICES is one way we accomplish that goal. .
